Juanita Prieto – Colombian

Juanita Prieto is a Colombian actress, born and raised in Bogotá and now based in London.
Her passion for performance began at an early age, leading to her first acting experience playing Nala in a school production of The Lion King before a full house at Bogotá’s prestigious Teatro Cafam de Bellas Artes. This pivotal moment ignited her passion for live performance and set her on a clear path towards a career in the arts.
She began her professional acting training at Casa Ensamble directly under acclaimed Colombian actor and theatre practitioner Alejandra Borrero, a formative experience that deepened her respect for the disciplined nature of theatre. She went on to explore multidisciplinary performance at JN Producciones, training in screen acting, singing, and high-energy dance styles like Dancehall and Commercial Reggaeton before completing a Foundation Course in Performing Arts at ASAB, one of Colombia’s most respected institutions for arts education, focusing on physical theatre, devising, and collaborative creation while engaging critically with the social and cultural realities of Colombia.
Moving to the UK at 18, Juanita earned an HND in Acting and Film at Raindance Film School, starring in several short films showcased at the Raindance Film Festival while gaining a deeper understanding of British performance culture and the UK film industry.
Her recent screen credits include Lie with Her (Obscurae Productions) and The Public Eye (dir. Valeria Schumann Rosso). Beyond acting, Juanita has covered red carpets at BFI Flare with Obscurae Media, driven by a strong passion for queer storytelling and authentic representation.
Dance has always been central to Juanita’s artistry. Since moving to the UK, she has continued exploring movement as a performer while reconnecting with her heritage through training in Salsa Caleña, the fast-paced, energetic dance style originating from Cali.
Fluent in English and Spanish, and currently learning Polish, Juanita is particularly drawn to stories that explore identity, belonging, and human connection, and is excited to continue building her career across film and stage
