AVRA HARAKA – Greek

Avra is an actor-musician from Greece. Growing up in Athens, she could always be found playing the piano, dancing ballet across the living room, or painting. She first performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival when she was only 12 as one of the youngest cast members in the musical ‘Godspell’; that was when she decided to pursue a career in the performing arts. In the same year she auditioned and was selected to be the solo vocalist to record the Greek-dubbed theme song of Disney channel’s ‘Patito Feo’ for the series’ daily broadcasting on Greek television. Once she was 18, she moved to England to study at the Royal Northern College of Music as a lyric soprano coloratura on the Vocal Studies & Opera course (BMus). She then trained intensively in Music Theatre (MA) at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, further building upon her stage and on-screen acting skills, vocal capabilities, and dancing technique in various genres.

In London she premiered the role of Jane Bennet in a new musical adaptation of ‘Pride & Prejudice’ that debuted at the RCSSD (2022). Before this she was granted a spot on the Young Artists studio of New York’s Camerata Bardi Vocal Academy, preparing the role of Ilia (understudy) for a production of Mozart’s opera ‘Idomeneo’ that was staged in Crete (2021). Other operatic characters she has played include Zerlina in ‘Don Giovanni’ (2020) and Serpina in Pergolesi’s ‘La Serva Padrona’ (2019) at the RNCM. Her acting experience in front of the camera includes co-starring in a music video shot for an emerging band, and training in workshops for film-actors. Based in London now, Avra enjoys long walks, reading, working on music projects with other artists and putting on her own Greek-themed concerts in the city.
