Haakon Smestad is a Norwegian-Turkish classically trained actor based in London. He´s got five years of training from Norway, Denmark and the UK, with a Master of Arts from Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London. His work spans across theatres in several countries, including The National Theatre, Theatre Ibsen and The Kristiansund Opera in Norway, New Diorama Theatre in London, The Space in Istanbul and Pop-Up Globe in Auckland/ Melbourne, where he played Iago in the critically acclaimed production of Othello. Haakon is specialised in performing Shakespeare´s works but is also passionate about new writing, something he frequently explores through his prize-winning theatre company Teaterterminalen, which won the prestigious Bergensprisen in the category “best theatre production of the year 2013” for the production De Selektive. His tv and film credits include the lead in Alliert og Alene, a mini-series about the Norwegian resistance movement during WW2, and another lead in the series of short films called Under Water Realm. Haakon is also a critically acclaimed theatre director, with credits including three box office successes; of Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky, A Dreamplay by August Strindberg and One Flew Over the Cuckoo´s Nest by Ken Kesey.
