Lorraine Yu – Hongkongese

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Lorraine Yu first came across physical theatre in 2016. She was later scouted by Théâtre de la Feuille, a physical theatre company based in Hong Kong, after completing the one-year physical theatre course at Tang Shu-Wing Theatre Studio. She proceeded to train and tour as an understudy with Feuille whilst completing her studies in English literature at the Chinese University of Hong Kong from 2017-2019. Lorraine is also known as Ventania in the Capoeira community, an Afro-Brazilian dance-like martial art she holds close to her heart.

Since relocating to Brighton in late 2020, Lorraine has been eager to jumpstart her performing career. She restarted her capoeira training and proceeded to make her debut in BATSU! (London). Her other recent physical theatre credits in Brighton include Dark Bites, The Writer’s Mark: The Life and Work of Franz Kafka, and the Brighton 24-Hour Play Festival. In 2024, she made her Brighton Fringe debut in two theatre productions The Tower and That Witch Helen.

Lorraine is an avid learner of all things movement and dance. She enjoys forging connections across various styles and genres using capoeira as her foundation. Her ongoing movement explorations also include pole dance and partner dances such as bachata and salsa. She is also a life model.
